Advocacy Plus was founded with the intent to provide supports to those individuals seeking to empower themselves, who may benefit from skills training, service coordination, employment services, and achieving expressed goals, with such supports.
Kurt Geist-founder, coordinator, and service provider for Advocacy Plus, has over thirty years experience in working with individuals with disabilities, or who are struggling. This experience has included group and individual skills training, drug and alcohol counseling, group facilitation, mental health counseling, case management, and job development. These experiences combined, have allowed Kurt to offer well rounded services, with the potential of addressing multiple issues if needed.
In addition to his experience, Kurt has his Bachelors in Sociology and Psychology, is a qualified mental health professional (QMHA), and has received extensive training in case management, drug and alcohol, as well as mental health counseling, and as a job developer.
SKILLS TRAINING: Advocacy Plus offers supports in working with individuals. These could include social supports, budgeting, independent living skills, navigating mass transit, nutrition, running a household, overcoming obstacles experienced, job readiness preparation, and other supports as requested by the individual. This also includes social inclusion supports, and assisting individuals in developing a solid support system.
SKILLS TRAINING GROUPS: Advocacy Plus offers social skill training groups. Often individuals look to both expand their experiences, as well as enhancing social skills. Advocacy Plus offers both, through group outings to different localities, or coordinates locally based outings.
CASE MANAGEMENT: Advocacy Plus offers to work with individuals to assist them in accessing services they have determined they desire, or could benefit from. Often-times, navigating a system that can be complicated, or intimidating, can be overwhelming. Advocacy Plus aims to make such coordination simpler, by providing such supports. Service Coordination, and Skills Training usually go hand in hand, and will be offered simultaneously when requested, and needed.
JOB DEVELOPMENT: Kurt Geist has over seven years experiences in vocational development. This service includes identifying career goals, and developing a plan of how to get there, interview preparation, job readiness, resume development, as well as employer outreach, and networking. Once the individual becomes employed, Kurt, or Advocacy Plus staff, will continue if requested, in providing job coaching, and problem solving-as a way to assist individuals to retain employment.
Advocacy Plus provides services to individuals who have inadequate means of accessing needed services. While working in a community mental health setting, it has been found that individuals either without insurance, or inadequate general funds provided, sometimes do not receive the frequency of services needed. As a result, Advocacy Plus was founded, and fundraising efforts are on-going, to allow us to provide services to those with limited means.
Advocacy Plus can be reached at 503-754-4940. Hours are between 8am-5pm. If there is no answer after this time, we will be be sure to get back to you within one business day. Please note these are business hours, and services provided are scheduled as it works for the individual. The Advocacy Plus web site is finally good to go, and we hope you'll feel free to leave a comment or inquiries on the contact/referral form page. As with voice mails, our goal is to return e-mails within one business day. We are here to provide supports needed-have a good day.
Thanks,
Kurt
